Institutional investors placing more emphasis on ESG performance of Companies: survey

New Delhi: A large number of institutional investors worldwide are paying more attention to the environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance of companies when making investment decisions. Investors could opt out of companies with poor environmental records, a survey said. According to the EY Global Institutional Investor Survey-2021, 74 percent of institutional investors feared more that ‘divestment’ could be made based on poor ESG performance.

The survey took the opinion of 15 institutional investors in 19 countries, including 320 respondents from India. This is the sixth year of EY’s survey. According to the report, 92 percent of investors said they made decisions based on the potential benefits of a ‘green revival’ over the past 12 months.

Marie-Laure delaru, global vice president (assurance) of EY, said, ‘it is clear that the covid-19 pandemic has led investors to put more emphasis on ESG performance. There are positive signs that it is now beginning to translate into action. However, both companies and investors need to take bold steps to bring ESG performance to the center of the decision-making process.’’
